The Golden Valley Cougars (Merced, CA) basketball edged the host Merced Bears (Merced, CA), 49-46 in Wednesday's league bout.

The Cougars now possess a 17-6 record. They play next when they travel to Buhach Colony for a Central California Conference bout on Friday, January 31. Golden Valley will play a Thunder team coming off a 67-44 league loss to Atwater (Atwater, CA). The Thunder record now stands at 10-12.

With the loss, Merced falls to 14-9 on the campaign. The Bears travel to El Capitan (Merced, CA) to play the Gauchos in a Central California Conference bout on Friday, January 31. The Gauchos go into the bout with a record of 15-7. El Capitan won 68-53 in their recent league bout against Los Banos (Los Banos, CA)
