New Mexico High School Volleyball - Los Alamos over Espanola Valley
October 20, 2022: Los Alamos, NM 87544 The Los Alamos Hilltoppers (Los Alamos, NM) volleyball were winner over the visiting Espanola Valley Sundevils (Espanola, NM), 3-0 in Thursday's league outing.
With the win, Los Alamos betters its record to 13-6 on the year. The Hilltoppers host Menaul (Albuquerque, NM) to face the Panthers in a non-league outing on Saturday, October 22. The Panthers go into the outing with a record of 12-4. Menaul won 3-0 in their recent league outing against Estancia (Estancia, NM)
The Sundevils now sport a 2-17 record. They play next when they host Taos for a 4A District 2 outing on Tuesday, October 25. Espanola Valley will face a Tigers squad coming off a 3-0 league loss to Pojoaque Valley (Pojoaque, NM). The Tigers record now stands at 7-12.
Match Summary
Senior Night at Griffith Gymnasium in Los Alamos turned out good for the home team, Los Alamos Hilltoppers. The Sun Devils from Espanola made the trip up the hill for the 2nd district meeting of the two teams. The first two sets saw the Toppers jump out to a lead and Espanola climbed back in. The third set was a quick start for the Sun Devils and forced the Toppers, behind the serve of Ashley Hammond to pull even at 18-18. The Toppers were able to right the ship and finish the match in 3 sets. The Toppers were led in kills by Michelle Macias with 9 and Ashley Hammond and Hannah Bergemann with 6 each. The Topper back row was extremely solid with strong serve / receive by Anna Kirkland, Shyanne Garcia and Deanna Foster. Next up the Toppers get the Menaul Panthers on Saturday at Griffith.
