The Thomas Jefferson Gryphons (Mooresboro, NC) basketball nipped the host Shelby Golden Lions (Shelby, NC), 53-47 in Tuesday's league test.

The Gryphons (17-3) will now prepare for their test against Cherryville (Cherryville, NC). The Ironmen go into the 1A/2A Southern Piedmont test with a 6-16 record. In their last test, Cherryville got by NCSSM: Morganton (Morganton, NC), 58-16, in a non-league test.

The Golden Lions now own a 10-12 record. They play next when they travel to Burns for a 1A/2A Southern Piedmont test on Friday, February 16. Shelby will encounter a Bulldogs squad coming off a 38-32 league win over East Gaston (Mt. Holly, NC). The Bulldogs record now stands at 11-12.
