New Mexico High School Volleyball - Los Alamos edged by St. Pius X
August 30, 2022: Los Alamos, NM 87544 The St. Pius X Sartans held off the host Los Alamos Hilltoppers volleyball team by a score of 3-2 in Tuesday's non-league test.
The Sartans now have a 1-2 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Sandia Prep for a non-league test on Thursday, September 1. St. Pius X will confront a Sundevils team coming off a 3-0 non-league loss to Hope Christian (Albuquerque, NM). The Sundevils record now stands at 0-1.
The Hilltoppers (1-2) will now prepare for their test against Cobre (Bayard, NM). The Indians enter the non-league test with a 1-1 record. In their last test, Cobre held off Animas (Animas, NM), 3-0, in a non-league test.
Match Summary
The Los Alamos Hilltoppers hosted the first home game of the season and could not hold on to leads to finish off the Sartans of St. Pius. Set 1 was a bit rough for the back row but Angelina Passalacqua the Jr. setter was able to give her hitters just enough to finish out the set with a win. The second set the Toppers jumped out to a lead but were plagued with copious hitting and serving errors as they let Pius run off unanswered point after unanswered point the third set was more of the same. In the fourth set the Toppers took control with timely hitting and very solid defense. In the end it was the lack of aggressive play and the ability to put the ball down that caused the Hilltoppers to drop the 5th set. The Toppers will regroup and head to Las Cruces / Hatch for tournament play this weekend, hoping to put all facets of their game together.
