Gunner Rivers, Chris Henry Jr. and Gaige Weddle lead list of sons of former NFL players starring in high school football

Over 200 former NFL players have children shining Friday nights.

Dylan Raiola, Marvin Harrison Jr., Kennedy Urlacher, Jerome Bettis Jr. and Akili Smith Jr. are just some of the recent players that have followed the same footsteps as their fathers when it comes to pursuing football. After a search spanning the length of the high school regular season, MaxPreps has identified more than 240 sons of NFL players making a name for themselves on Friday nights.

Philip Rivers, Antonio Cromartie, Maurice Jones-Drew, Clinton Portis, Eric Weddle, Charles Woodson, Jason Witten and Champ Bailey all have sons currently playing high school football.

Gunner Rivers, Chris Henry Jr., Gaige Weddle, Julian Cromartie and Jett Harrison are just a handful of the players featured. Weddle is a five-star athlete in the Class of 2028 who stars on both sides of the ball. Harrison and Henry Jr. are five-star wide receivers while Rivers is a four-star and Cromartie a three-star.

Every position is featured on this list including long snapper. Some of the greatest kickers in NFL history have kids playing including David Akers and Stephen Gostkowski.



St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) is the most well-represented school on the list with eight sons of NFL players, including four-star wide receiver Julius Jones Jr. and defensive end Wyatt Smith, who had three sacks in a win over American Heritage last month. His father is Justin Smith who was drafted No. 4 overall in 2001 and had 87 career sacks.

Brophy College Prep (Phoenix, Ariz.) is second with six including the sons of Larry Fitzgerald and Donovan McNabb.


Only NFL players who were on regular season rosters were included.

Jaylen Addai, Shadow Creek (Pearland, Texas)

The four-star sophomore wide receiver has hauled in 11 touchdowns for an 8-3 Sharks team making a run through the postseason. Joseph was a 2006 first-round pick who won a national championship at LSU and Super Bowl XLI with the Colts.

Sawyer Akers, Ravenwood (Brentwood, Tenn.)

The senior picked a different position from his All-Pro father and plays in the secondary for the No. 10 team in the Volunteer State. David holds the record for most field goals in an NFL season with 44 back in 2011. He also sits at No. 3 all-time in postseason field goals with 39, including three in Super Bowl XLVII.



Case Alexander, Washington (Okla.)

Case is a four-star junior linebacker who has made an impact on both sides of the ball since his freshman year. Stephen was a tight end with Washington, San Diego, Detroit and Denver between 1998-2006 and reached one Pro Bowl.

Joseph Alexander, Harvest Covenant (Purcellville, Va.)

Joseph is a sophomore that makes an impact in all three phases of the game with 40 receptions, 35 tackles, an interception and a 14.7 average punt return. Father Shaun is his head coach and a former NFL MVP. He had 9,453 career rushing yards and rushed for over 1,000 yards in five straight seasons. Shaun also rushed for at least 150 yards in 11 games, including a 266-yard game in 2001.

Jett Archuleta, Chaparral (Scottsdale, Ariz.)

Jett is a safety just like his father and starts in the secondary for Chaparral where he has 53 tackles and five pass deflections as a junior. Adam was a first-round pick in 2001 with the Rams. In seven NFL seasons, the Arizona State product had 18 career sacks and four interceptions, one of which was against Steve McNair.

Donnie Avery Jr., Fort Bend Christian Academy (Sugar Land, Texas)

Donnie Jr. has caught 55 passes as a junior this season for four touchdowns while handling returns for the Eagles. His father carved out a six-year NFL career with the Rams, Titans, Colts and Chiefs between 2009-14.

Ezekiel Ayangbile, Langham Creek (Houston, Texas)

A four-star defensive lineman, Ayangbile stops running backs in their tracks ferociously and uses his world class speed to hunt down opponents in open field. The junior holds double-digit offers including Baylor, Duke and Texas Tech. His father was a five-time Pro Bowler with 218 starts on the offensive line and played in the NFL until he was 38 years old.

The sophomore holds three offers including one from Colorado. Brayden is an ironman who has eight receiving touchdowns and two interceptions this year for the Golden Bears. His father is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame and recorded 52 interceptions between 1999-2013 with Washington and Denver.



Jaden Baldwin, Basha (Chandler, Ariz.)

Jaden is a three-star junior with double-digit offers that include Arizona State, Indiana and Texas A&M. The wide receiver has 51 receptions for one of Arizona's top teams. Jon was a first-round pick of the Chiefs in 2011 and played three seasons in the NFL.

Blaize Battaglia, Milton (Ga.)

Blaize is a force at linebacker as a junior for one of the best teams in the nation with 110 tackles this season and had a season-high 16 twice. Matt played in three games with the 1987 Philadelphia Eagles and had a sack against a Chicago Bears squad with Sean Payton at quarterback.

Tatum Bell Jr., Heritage (Frisco, Texas)

Committed to UNLV, the three-star senior is a playmaker at wide receiver who routinely goes over 100 yards. The elder Tatum was a second round pick by the Broncos in 2004 and rushed for 2,773 yards in his five-year career. In 2006, he was a 1,000 yard rusher.

Grant Birk, St. Croix Lutheran (West St. Paul, Minn.)

The senior bruiser paves the way for a powerful run game on the offensive line and is a run-stopper on defense. His father Matt was named Walter Payton Man of the Year, which honors a player's commitment to philanthropy and community impact and Grant already gives back. Grant has nearly perfect grades and makes visits to the Children's Hospital. Matt was a six-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl XLVII champion during his 14-year career at center.

Andrew Bjornson, Miramonte (Orinda, Calif.)

Andrew is a three-star with an offer from UNLV. The senior has 18 career receiving touchdowns. Eric won a national championship at Washington and Super Bowl XXX with the Dallas Cowboys.

Trenton Blaylock, Atascocita (Humble, Texas)

The three-star cornerback is rarely thrown at. The junior has picked up 25 offers including Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas. Derrick played six years in the NFL at running back with the Chiefs and Jets from 2001-06, scoring 12 touchdowns.



LeGarrette Blount Jr., Mountain Pointe (Phoenix, Ariz.)

The sophomore became eligible in October and has three receiving touchdowns in seven games. So far, he has received offers from Marshall, North Carolina and Southern Miss. His father was a bruiser at running back who scored 56 touchdowns and won three Super Bowls during his nine-year NFL career.

Father: Michael Boulware Sr.
Michael Jr. is tackling machine with 429 over the past three years. The senior linebacker also has seven sacks and four forced fumbles in his career. His father started for Seattle in Super Bowl XL, where he intercepted Ben Roethlisberger in the second quarter. He burst on the scene as a rookie in 2004 and intercepted nine passes in his first two seasons. In his four-year career he had 189 career tackles.

Grant Bowen, IC Catholic Prep (Elmhurst, Ill.)

Grant is a sophomore with offers from Illinois and Iowa. The sophomore has 11 touchdown receptions and two interceptions. Matt played in the NFL from 2000-06 with St. Louis, Green Bay, Washington and Buffalo. The safety had four career interceptions, including one against Tom Brady.

Baylen Brees, Santa Fe Christian (Solana Beach, Calif.)

The junior wide receiver has 13 receptions for 104 yards and a touchdown this season. Father Drew is a future Pro Football Hall of Famer who is No. 2 all-time in passing yards and won Super Bowl XLIV with the New Orleans Saints.

Jalen Brewster, Cedar Hill (Texas)

Jalen is the No. 1 defensive lineman in the Class of 2027. The five-star is committed to Texas Tech and has his team in the playoffs. Robert was a third-round pick who played one game with the Cowboys at guard in 2010 after missing 2009 with an injury.

Zach Brien, Bishop O'Dowd (Oakland, Calif.)

Zach is ranked as the No. 1 kicker in the Class of 2027 by Chris Sailer Kicking and holds an offer from Arizona. Father Doug kicked in the NFL from 1994-2005 and made 207 field goals with seven teams. In Super Bowl XXIX with San Francisco he made seven extra-points in the 49-26 win over 49-26.



Michael Brown, Legacy School of Sport Sciences (Spring, Texas)

Mike is a three-star receiver headed to Texas A&M. The playmaker is the top target of senior five-star quarterback Keisean Henderson. Reggie was a first round pick in 1996 by Detroit and started all 26 games until suffering a career ending injury. The linebacker had two career interceptions, one of which was against Brett Favre.

McCoy Browner, Bonita (La Verne, Calif.)

McCoy is a sophomore with 37 tackles, five pass deflections and three interceptions for a postseason squad. Brandon won two Super Bowls and reached a Pro Bowl in five seasons with the Seahawks, Patriots and Saints. He intercepted 12 passes in his career, highlighted with picks against Peyton Manning, Eli Manning and Tony Romo.

Dez Bryant Jr., Southlake Carroll (Southlake, Texas)

Dez Jr. is a sophomore wide receiver with offers that include Texas A&M. His father was one of the most polarizing college and NFL players of his generation. Between 2012-14 he caught 273 passes for 3,935 yards and 41 touchdowns with Dallas. Over his nine-year career he reached three Pro Bowls and caught 75 touchdowns.

Quinn Buckey, Liberty (Bakersfield, Calif.)

Quinn is a three-star 6-6, 270-pound senior offensive tackle committed to Michigan State. The run game averages 8.1 yards per carry and his quarterback has thrown just one interception this season. Father Jeff played guard in the NFL from 1996-99 and blocked for quarterbacks that include Dan Marino.

Correll Buckhalter Jr., Liberty Christian (Argyle, Texas)

Correll Jr. is a three-star junior workhorse at running back with offers that include Ole Miss, Missouri and Iowa. This season he has over 1,400 yards of offense with 18 touchdowns under head coach Jason Witten. Correll Sr. won a national title at Nebraska in 1997 before enjoying a 10-year NFL career where he rushed for 2,944 yards with 21 touchdowns.

Wes Burford, Oakdale (Calif.)

Wes is a punishing running back who has 7,003 yards and 93 rushing touchdowns since the start of the 2023 season. The senior Air Force commit also plays every down on defense and has 4.5 sacks this year. Father Seth was a seventh-round pick by the Chargers in 2002 and backed up Drew Brees and Doug Flutie for a season.



M.J. Burnett, Walton (Marietta, Ga.)

M.J. is a three-star safety with 15 offers including USC, Indiana and Mississippi State. He has five interceptions this season. Morgan played 10 years at safety with the Packers, Steelers and Browns from 2010-19. He won Super Bowl XLV with Green Bay and had 10 interceptions in his career.

William Carlson, Gilbert Christian (Gilbert, Ariz.)

William is a freshman on varsity who has played in three games and recorded one tackle for a playoff team. John had 210 receptions with the Seahawks, Vikings and Cardinals from 2008-14.

Sam Carney, Santa Fe Christian

Sam plays on both sides of the football and has 41 tackles and 4.5 sacks on defense. John kicked for 23 years and made 478 career field goals for seven teams.

Jacob Carriker, Standing Bear (Lincoln, Neb.)

Jacob is a sophomore linebacker on varsity for the Grizzlies. Adam was a first round pick by the Rams in 2007. In six NFL seasons the defensive end had nine sacks and 126 tackles in 65 games.

Devin Carter, Douglas County (Douglasville, Ga.)

Devin is a four-star Florida State wide receiver commit who has crossed 100 receiving yards three times this year, including a 103-yard, two touchdown performance against No. 9 Buford. Dexter was a first round pick of the 49ers in 1990 and played seven NFL seasons. He won Super Bowl XXIX and had 1,698 yards from scrimmage in his career.

Desmond Cesaire, Mt. Carmel (San Diego, Calif.)

Desmond is a wide receiver and linebacker on the freshman team. Jacques played on the Chargers defensive line from 2003-11 and had 12.5 career sacks.



Dane Clark, Humboldt (Iowa)

Just a sophomore, Dane is a 6-4, 205 tight end just like his father who has five receptions this season. Dallas was a key weapon for Peyton Manning and the Colts who won Super Bowl XLI. He was an All-Pro in 2009 and caught 53 career touchdowns.

David Clowney V, Douglas County

David V has eight offers including Duke and Virginia Tech. The sophomore can play on both sides of the football and has one catch on varsity this season. His father was a fifth round pick in 2007 with 22 receptions over three years with the Jets and Panthers.

Colston Colquitt, West (Knoxville, Tenn.)

Colston continues the Colquitt family legacy at punter as his father, uncle and grandfather all played in the NFL. Dustin is the Chiefs all-time leader in games and won Super Bowl LIV. The two-time Pro Bowler had more than 53,000 career punting yards.

Kye Cooper, San Diego (Calif.)

Kye does it all on both sides of the football for a 7-5 Cavers squad. The junior has 14 total touchdowns with offers from Colorado State, Pitt and San Diego State. Stephen had 503 career tackles for the Chargers between 2003-11. Had a sack on Tom Brady in the 2008 AFC Championship game.

Brady Couch, Lexington Christian (Lexington, Ky.)

Brady is a sophomore on varsity who plays wide receiver and defensive back with offers from Eastern Kentucky and Delaware State. Tim was the first overall pick in the 1999 NFL Draft by the expansion Cleveland Browns. From 1999-2003 he passed for 11,131 career yards with 64 touchdowns.

Major Cribbs, Archbishop Hoban (Akron, Ohio)

Major is a sophomore who has caught touchdown passes this season for the Knights. Josh is one of the greatest returners in NFL history with 11 kickoff and punt toughdowns. The three-time Pro Bowler played with the Browns, Jets and Colts from 2005-14 and also had nine touchdowns on offense.



Jasiah Crockett, St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.)

Jasiah is a freshman wide receiver for a team in the MaxPreps Top 25. He has five receptions with offers from Auburn, Pitt and South Florida. Henri won a national championship at Florida State and was a linebacker in the NFL from 1997-2003 where he had 288 tackles. With the Falcons in Super Bowl XXXIII, he recorded two tackles.

Julian Cromartie, College Park (The Woodlands, Texas)

Julian averages over a touchdown reception per game for the undefeated Cavaliers. The three-star junior has double-digit offers that include Arizona State, Washington and Florida State, where his father played. Antonio was a first round pick in 2006 by the Chargers who had 31 interceptions across 11 NFL seasons.

Tyler Cromartie, Quartz Hill (Calif.)

Tyler is a senior defensive back and special teams star with an offer from Georgia Tech. Antonio was a four-time Pro Bowler who intercepted both Peyton Manning and Tom Brady in the 2007 NFL playoffs. Two months before the playoffs he picked Manning off three times in a regular season game.

Luke Cundiff, Brophy College Prep (Phoenix, Ariz.)

Luke is a freshman who recorded touchbacks on four of his 10 kickoffs this season. He is rated by Kohl's Kicking as the No. 1 punter in the Class of 2029 and a top 20 kicker. Billy made 182 field goals and had a Pro Bowl appearance in the NFL between 2002-15. 

K.J. Dansby, Eagle's Landing Christian Academy (McDonough, Ga.)

K.J. plays left tackle on varsity as a freshman for a squad averaging 174 rushing yards per game. Karlos had 1,422 career tackles between 2004–17 with Arizona, Miami, Cleveland and Cincinnati. The linebacker also had 43 sacks and 20 interceptions. In Super Bowl XLIII he intercepted Ben Roethlisberger late in the first half.

Chauncey Davis Jr., North Gwinnett (Suwanee, Ga.)

Chauncey is a three-star senior committed to Southern Mississippi. He picked off six passes in his first two years and rarely sees the ball thrown his direction as a senior. His father had 11 career sacks in the NFL between 2005-11 with the Falcons and Bears. He also had a pick-six against Drew Brees.



C.J. Davis, Hewitt-Trussville (Trussville, Ala.)

C.J. is rated as the No. 10 running back in the Class of 2028 with offers that include Florida State, Georgia and Tennessee. His father was responsible for the Kick Six at Auburn when he returned a field goal 109 yards to defeat Alabama as time expired in the 2013 Iron Bowl. He went undrafted in 2014 and carved out a three-year NFL career with the Chargers and 49ers.

Jaxon Davis, Kent Denver (Englewood, Colo.)

Jaxon is a freshman track star making an impact in the return game for the Sun Devils. Terrell is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame after a 78-game career with the Broncos where he rushed for 7,607 career yards. He was the MVP of Super Bowl XXXII and the league MVP in 1998.

Jianni Davis, Bishop McNamara (Forestville, Md.)

Three-star senior defensive end picked Maryland among a dozen offers. Has strong speed along the edge that allows him to deflect and intercept passes. Vernon was drafted sixth overall in 2006, catching 563 passes as a tight end with San Francisco, Denver and Washington from 2006-19. Had four playoff games where he went over 100 receiving yards.

Thomas Davis Jr., Weddington (Matthews, N.C.)

The Class of 2026 linebacker is a four-star senior headed to Notre Dame. He has plugged the holes all season for the No. 4 team in North Carolina that allows less than 10 points per game. His father was a first round pick in 2005 who was a three-time Pro Bowler with 1,216 career tackles, 29 sacks and 13 interceptions.

Shiloh Dent, St. Thomas Aquinas

Shiloh is a senior linebacker with 33 tackles and three sacks for a team ranked in the MaxPreps Top 25. Richard has 137.5 sacks and 37 forced fumbles in his 15-year NFL career. The Pro Football Hall of Famer was the MVP of Super Bowl XX with Chicago.

Reid Dielman, Bishop's (La Jolla, Calif.)

Reid is a sophomore wide receiver and starting defensive back for a 8-4 playoff squad. Father Kris played 120 games at guard for the Chargers from 2003-11. The four-time Pro Bowler blocked for Hall of Famer LaDainian Tomlinson when LT won MVP and rushed for an all-time record 28 rushing touchdowns in 2006.



Dylan Dreessen, Castle View (Castle Rock, Colo.)

Dylan is a tight end who has seen varsity action as a sophomore. Joel played tight end for eight seasons with the Jets, Texans and Broncos, recording 158 career receptions for 19 touchdowns.

Jason Dungy, Carrollwood Day (Tampa, Fla.)

Jason has five pass deflections and 25 tackles as a junior. Tony had nine interceptions with the Steelers and 49ers between 1977-79. The Super Bowl XIII champ intercepted Roger Staubach and Brian Sipe during his career. He went on to win 139 games and Super Bowl XLI as a head coach. 

King David Christopher-Dunn, Lincoln (San Diego, Calif.)

King is a senior wide receiver with a state championship under his belt playing for his father in San Diego with offers that include Arizona. David played for the Bengals, Steelers, Browns and Raiders between 1995-2001. He made the final plays in both Cleveland Municipal Stadium and the Houston Astrodome.

Jordan Edwards, Washington County (Sandersville, Ga.)

Jordan is a sophomore difference maker for the Golden Hawks. The tight end has three multi-touchdown games this year under his father, who is the head coach. Robert was a first-round pick out of Georgia at running back in 1998 and reached the Pro Bowl as a rookie after rushing for over 1,000 yards and nine touchdowns. Unfortunately he sustained a career-altering injury in a flag football game. He fought through it though and reached the NFL again in 2002 with the Dolphins. Jordan's mother Tracy played three years in the WNBA after helping lead Georgia to consecutive Final Fours.

Xander Edwards, Bolles (Jacksonville, Fla.)

Xander is a sophomore running back with double-digit offers that include Florida State, Miami and Syracuse. This season Xander has 1,992 rushing yards and 32 touchdowns. Marc was a bruising fullback in the NFL with five teams from 1997-2005. He had two carries in the Patriots Super Bowl XXXVI victory of the Rams. 

Gus Emtman, Freeman (Rockford, Wash.)

Gus is a sophomore offensive lineman and linebacker who has appeared on varsity this season. Steve was the No. 1 overall pick out of Washington in 1992. In six NFL seasons he had eight sacks and an interception off Dan Marino in 50 career games.



Jaeger Emtman, Freeman

Jaeger is a senior offensive lineman on a squad that averages over 5 yards per carry this year. His father led Washington to a national championship in 1991 and picked up tons of hardware including the prestigious Outland Trophy, awarded to the nation's top lineman.

Burton Faneca, St. Paul's (Covington, La.)

Burton is a 6-foot-3 freshman right tackle for the 9-2 Wolves. Alan started an incredible 201 games on the offensive line between 1998-2010 with the Steelers, Jets and Cardinals. The Pro Football Hall of Famer reached nine Pro Bowls and won Super Bowl XL with Pittsburgh.

Toa Feinga, Herriman (West Herriman, Utah)

The four-star is rated as the No. 4 interior offensive linemen in the Class of 2028 and has offers highlighted by Arkansas, BYU and Utah. Father Ray had a standout career at BYU and played three games with the Dolphins in 2010.

Keaton Fields, Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.)

Keaton is a three-star starter for an undefeated team in the MaxPreps Top 25. The sophomore has a handful of offers and four interceptions this season, including one against Chandler. Floyd was a fifth round pick in 1991 and carved out a three-year career with the Chargers. He played in 30 career games and forced a fumble against the Miami Dolphins in the 1992 playoffs.

Kaydon Finley, Aledo (Texas)

Kaydon is a four-star senior wide receiver committed to Notre Dame. He leads the undefeated Bearcats in receiving yards and touchdowns. As a junior he reached the end zone 21 times. Jermichael was one of the best tight ends in the NFL when he could stay healthy, playing in 70 games over six years with the Packers. His best game came in the 2010 Wild Card playoffs against Arizona when he hauled in six receptions for 159 yards.

Devin Fitzgerald, Brophy College Prep

The three-star wide receiver has taken a huge leap as a senior and is headed to Notre Dame. Over a two-game period in September, Devin caught 24 passes for 392 yards and five touchdowns for the No. 6 team in Arizona. Larry is one of the greatest wide receivers in NFL history with 121 career receiving touchdowns. In 17 seasons with the Cardinals he reached 11 Pro Bowls and in Super Bowl XLIII, he caught two touchdowns.

Richie Flanigan, Notre Dame Academy (Green Bay, Wis.)

Richie is a three-star junior committed to Notre Dame as a defensive lineman. His father Jim was a third-round pick out of Notre Dame who had 46 career sacks between 1994-2003. In 2000, he won the prestigious Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award. Richie's grandfather Jim Sr. was a linebacker who won Super Bowl II with the Packers.



Steele Fletcher, Providence Day (Charlotte, N.C.)

Steele is a key receiver for a Chargers squad ranked in our expanded top 100. The junior holds seven offers including Maryland, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.
