High school basketball: MaxPreps Player of the Year in all 50 states

Cameron Boozer, Matas Buzelis, Isaiah Collier, Ron Holland, Jared McCain, Koa Peat and D.J. Wagner among future stars earning state honors.

Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school basketball. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2022-23 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence, in addition to local and state accolades.

Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which is scheduled to be released March 29. Read on for a look at the postseason honors schedule and the POYs in all 50 states.

Alabama
6-4 | Guard | Class of 2023
Auburn pledge averaged 35.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.6 steals per game to push the Hornets (25-7) into the Class 7A state quarterfinals. STORY

6-3 | Guard | Class of 2023
Earned Alaska Player of the Year honors for the second consecutive season after averaging 21.2 points, 7.3 rebounds, 5.3 steals and 4.0 assists per game to lead the Wolf Pack (26-2) to the state title game. STORY

Five-star sophomore averaged 19.7 points, 9.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game for the repeat state champions. STORY

6-9 | Forward | Class of 2023
Mississippi signee averaged 21.3 points, 13.3 rebounds and 4.3 blocked shots per game to help the Chickasaws (34-2) reach the Class 4A state title game. STORY

California
6-2 | Guard | Class of 2023
Duke signee averaged 18 points, seven rebounds and four assists per game for nationally-ranked team. During McCain's final two seasons at Centennial, the Huskies went 63-4 with a state title in 2022. STORY

Colorado
6-2 | Guard | Class of 2023
Unsigned senior averaged 21.8 points, 7.6 rebounds, 6.6 assists and 4.9 steals per game for the Class 6A state champions. STORY

Connecticut
6-6 | Guard | Class of 2023
Division I prospect averaged 16 points, eight rebounds, six assists and two steals per game to guide the Eagles (27-1) to their third consecutive state championship. STORY

Delaware
6-2 | Guard | Class of 2023
Averaged more than 22 points per game and reached 30 points or more four times to guide the Hillers (17-5) to the state quarterfinals. STORY



District of Columbia
5-11 | Guard | Class of 2024
Top 100 junior averaged 16.2 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game to lead the Cadets (32-4) to the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference tournament title and the No. 19 spot in the MaxPreps Top 25. STORY

Florida
6-9 | Forward | Class of 2025
Top-ranked sophomore averaged 21.1 points, 11.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 2.0 blocks per game to help the Explorers repeat as state champions and earn top 10 national ranking. STORY

Top-ranked USC signee averaged 19.6 points, 6.8 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game to help the Wildcats (26-6) to their third state title in the past four seasons. STORY

Top 30 Michigan State signee averaged 18.8 points, 5.6 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game to help the Tigers (28-6) reach the Class 4A sectional finals. STORY

Regarded as the No. 2 prospect in the Class of 2024, Bidunga averaged 20.2 points, 13.8 rebounds and 4.5 blocks while shooting 81 percent from the field to guide the Wildkats to the Class 4A state title game. STORY

6-8 | Forward | Class of 2023
Five-star Iowa State signee averaged 22.9 points and 10.5 rebounds per game on the season to help the Warriors (22-3) reach the Class 4A state semifinals. STORY

Kansas
6-9 | Forward | Class of 2023
Five-star G-League Ignite commit averaged 15.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists, and 1.6 blocks per game to guide the Buffaloes (21-7) to the No. 4 spot in the National Top 10. STORY

Kentucky
6-2 | Guard | Class of 2024
Four-star junior averaged 32.2 points, 6.2 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 4.7 steals per game to guide the Lyons (31-6) to the state quarterfinals. Perry broke the career scoring record in Kentucky at the state tournament last week, surpassing Kelly Coleman's total of 4,337 set from 1953-1956. STORY

Louisiana
6-5 | Guard | Class of 2023
Boise State signee 16.4 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. He rose to the occasion in a 52-42 triumph over Calvary Baptist Academy (Shreveport) in the title game, scoring 16 points to help the Greenies (26-5) capture their 11th state crown. STORY

Maine
6-0 | Guard | Class of 2023
Averaged 25.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 2.3 steals per game this season to help the Stags (14-6) reach the Class AA regional semifinals. He scored a season-high 37 points in a 66-58 loss to Lewiston in December, one of six 30-point games this winter. STORY

Maryland
6-8 | Forward | Class of 2023
Top 50 Illinois signee averaged 17.6 points, 12.7 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game to guide the Gaels to the Baltimore Catholic League regular season and tournament titles. In a 59-50 win over Goretti in the league tournament title game, he scored 17 points and pulled down 21 rebounds. STORY



Massachusetts
5-11 | Guard | Class of 2024
Averaged 22 points, eight rebounds and five assists per game to navigate the Polar Bears (24-2) to the program's first Division I state title. He poured in 22 points in the state final win along with two rebounds and two assists. STORY

Michigan
6-2 | Guard | Class of 2025
Guided the Technicians (27-1) to their first Division 1 state title, averaging 21.4 points and 5.7 assists per game. Acuff scored 19 points in both the state semifinals and title game. STORY

Minnesota
6-10 | Forward | Class of 2024
Three-star Wisconsin signee averaged 23.4 points and 11.6 rebounds to help the Panthers (28-4) reach the Class AAAA state semifinals. STORY

Mississippi
5-10 | Guard | Class of 2023
Mississippi State pledge averaged 27.0 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.9 assists while shooting 50.3 percent from the field, 85.5 percent from the free throw line and 35.1 percent from 3-point range. He surpassed Robert Woodard for the most career points in Mississippi history with 4,367 points. STORY

Five-star Baylor signee averaged 13.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists to guide the Lions (24-1) to the No. 2 spot in the National Top 10 and the program's second consecutive GEICO Nationals appearance. STORY

Talented junior averaged 23.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.6 steals per game to lead the Golden Eagles (24-0) to the Class A state title. He poured in a career-high 54 points during a February win over Hardin. STORY

Nebraska
6-2 | Guard | Class of 2023
Three-star Creighton signee averaged 16.5 points, 5.0 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 2.1 steals while shooting 48 percent from the field and 80 percent from the free throw line to lead the Thunderbirds (29-0) to the Class A state title. STORY

6-1 | Guard | Class of 2024
Top 25 prospect averaged 23.0 points, 5.1 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game while shooting 47 percent from the field and 81 percent from free throw line to guide the Patriots (21-10) to the Class 5A state title game. STORY



New Hampshire
5-11 | Guard | Class of 2024
Averaged 25.7 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game to lead the Pioneers (15-8) to the Division I state quarterfinals. STORY

New Jersey
6-3 | Guard | Class of 2023
No. 4-ranked Kentucky signee averaged 22.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game this season. He scored a career-high 40 points in back-to-back games last month on the way to making his family the first to have three generations pass the 2,000-point threshold. STORY

New Mexico
6-1 | Guard | Class of 2023
Averaged 32.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 2.2 steals per game this season to finish his career with over 1,800 points. He scored 60 points in a January loss to Eldorado (Albuquerque) and poured in 40 or more on three other occasions. STORY

6-5 | Wing | Class of 2024
Four-star junior was named Player of the Year in the National Interscholastic Basketball Conference this season after leading the conference in scoring with 17.3 points per contest. STORY

North Carolina
6-6 | Wing | Class of 2024
Top 10 junior prospect averaged 26.0 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists this season and upped his scoring average to 38.6 points per contest over the course of five state tournament games. In a 105-92 double-overtime win over Chambers (Charlotte) in the quarterfinals, Evans scored a career-high 62 points – the sixth-highest single-game total in state history. STORY

North Dakota
6-4 | Forward | Class of 2023
North Dakota State signee averaged 27.7 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game to lead the Magicians (22-5) to a fifth place finish in the Class A state tournament. Dissette finished his career with a school record 1,754 points. STORY

Four-star Ohio State signee averaged 19.6 points and 7.6 rebounds per game while shooting 64.9 percent from the field to lead the Tigers (24-6) to the Division I state title game. Royal is Pickerington Central's all-time leading scorer with over 1,500 career points. STORY

Unsigned senior averaged 19.1 points, 11.4 rebounds and 3.2 blocked shots per game while picking up 15 double-doubles this season to guide the Rams (29-2) to the Division I state title game. STORY

6-5 | Guard | Class of 2024
Regarded as the No. 32 prospect in the Class of 2024, Scott averaged 19.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.4 steals per game to help the Wildcats (21-7) advance to the Class AAAAA state semifinals. STORY

South Dakota
6-4 | Guard | Class of 2023
South Dakota signee averaged 26.3 points and 9.2 rebounds per game to guide the Panthers (26-0) to the Class A state title. In four years at Dakota Valley, Bruns piled up 2,309 points and helped the program go 93-8 – including 52-0 over the past two seasons.



5-11 | Guard | Class of 2023
Led the Eagles (26-1) to the Class 2A Region 4 semifinals with averages 23.9 points, 8.0 assists, 4.6 steals and 3.5 rebounds while shooting 52 percent from the field, 36 percent from 3-point range and 76 percent from the free throw line. STORY

6-8 | Forward | Class of 2023
Top 10-ranked Texas signee averaged 20.3 points, 10.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.0 steals while shooting 54.4 percent from the field. In Holland's four seasons with the program he compiled over 1,500 points and 900 rebounds. STORY

Regarded as the No. 78 prospect in the Class of 2024, Kozlowski averaged 17.7 points, 11.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game for the Class 6A state champions. STORY

Career 1,000-point scorer averaged 16.4 points, 7.3 assists, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 steals per game to guide the Slaters (25-1) to the Division II state semifinals. STORY

Top 40 Maryland signee averaged 17.8 points, 7.4 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 2.6 steals this season to lead the Panthers (31-3) to the No. 6 spot in the MaxPreps Top 25.
