The high school football kicks off in Texas with a full slate of action starting Aug. 26. After running the table last season en route to its third straight state title,
Austin Westlake headlines our look at this year's contenders in the preseason MaxPreps Top 25.
The Chaps sent retiring head coach Todd Dodge out a winner with the 6A Division II title and an unbeaten season in 2021. Texas Player of the Year Cade Klubnik threw for 280 yards and four scores, including three to wideout
Jaden Greathouse, to run their win streak to 40 games.
Dodge and Clubnik are both gone but Greathouse returns for first-year coach Tony Salazar and the Chaps open at No. 7 nationally in the Preseason MaxPreps Top 25.
But as usual, Texas is loaded with talent as the top five teams in the state rankings are also represented in the national rankings with
South Oak Cliff (Dallas) sitting just outside.
North Shore (Houston) opens at No. 2 after winning its third title in four years, beating No. 3
Duncanville in the 2022 6A Division I finals.
Read on for a complete look at the Texas preseason top 25 for 2022.
