Every high school football player dreams of winning the Super Bowl. Only an elite few have etched their names in history with performances worthy of being named Super Bowl MVP.
Super Bowl LX is Sunday, Feb. 8, with the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots vying for the Lombardi Trophy. But who will be named the game's MVP?
California has produced the most Super Bowl MVPs over the first 59 games with 10 different players chosen. Seahawks quarterback
Sam Darnold, who attended
San Clemente, is the favorite to win this year's MVP. Other California products could be dark horses to win the award, including
Rashid Shaheed of
Mt. Carmel (San Diego) or
Jaylinn Hawkins of
Buena Park.
Texas has produced three straight Super Bowl MVPs, and six of the last 10 with
Patrick Mahomes winning three and
Jalen Hurts winning his first last year. Seahawks wide receiver
Jaxon Smith-Njigba of
Rockwall is a strong candidate to keep the Lone Star State MVP pipeline going.
Thirty-four quarterbacks have been named MVP. New England's
Drake Maye could become the first player from North Carolina to win the award. Maye starred in football and basketball at
Myers Park (Charlotte).
Seattle wide receiver
Cooper Kupp of
A.C. Davis (Yakima, Wash.) is the only previous MVP winner that will take the field Sunday. Kupp won the LVI award with the Rams.
Four schools have produced multiple Super Bowl MVPs.
Serra (San Mateo, Calif.) claims Lynn Swann and Tom Brady, the only four-time MVP.
Lincoln (San Diego, Calif.) has produced two Hall of Fame running backs who have won the award in Marcus Allen and Terrell Davis. Drew Brees and Nick Foles turned in MVP performances out of
Westlake (Austin, Texas) while Peyton and Eli Manning combined for three MVPs out of
Newman (New Orleans, La.).
