When Super Bowl LX takes place on Sunday at Levi's Stadium it will feature the 14th California quarterback to start in the NFL's biggest game. Seattle's
Sam Darnold graduated from
San Clemente (Calif.) in 2015.
Other notable quarterbacks to start a Super Bowl from the Golden State include Tom Brady, John Elway, Aaron Rodgers, Jim Plunkett and
Jared Goff.
Drake Maye will join Brad Johnson as the only other quarterback to start a Super Bowl from North Carolina. The former four-star recruit graduated from
Myers Park (Charlotte) in 2021. He threw for 6,713 yards and 86 touchdowns during his sophomore and junior year while leading the Mustangs to a 25-3 record. He didn't play as a senior because North Carolina moved the season to the spring.
Pennsylvania has had the second-most quarterbacks start a Super Bowl with nine. Jim Kelly, Dan Marino, Joe Montana, Joe Namath and Johnny Unitas headline the list. All five are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Louisiana has produced the third-most with seven led by Peyton Manning, Terry Bradshaw and Eli Manning.
In total, 23 different states have had at least one quarterback start a Super Bowl.
