The season officially ends here with the annual MaxPreps Northern California Baseball Teams. The teams were culled through first-team selections of the Bay Area News Group, Modesto Bee, Sacramento Bee, San Francisco Chronicle and Stockton Record.
Player of the Year — Tim Tague, Miramonte (Orinda), Sr.The San Francisco Chronicle Metro Player of the Year went 11-0 with an 0.81 ER, and hit .342 for a 27-1 team that reached the North Coast Section Division III finals. A 4.0 student, Tague is especially loyal and close to his 13-year old sister, Nicole, who was born with a rare chromosomal disorder that causes low muscle tone and speech challenges, though she inspires with her ability to ride horses and swim.
Coach of the Year — Rich Henning, Christian Brothers (Sacramento)An alumni of the school and The Sacramento Bee Coach of the Year, Henning led a team facing big expectations to a school-record best 29-2 season and the program's first Sac-Joaquin Section title, doing so in Division III. The Falcons lost four times in the finals since 2002.
First teamP — Cody Bolton, Tracy, Sr.Ace went 9-2 with a 1.13 ERA for the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I South winners.
P — Tanner Cunha, Christian Brothers, Sr.Ace went 10-2 with a 1.62 for the 29-2 Falcons that won the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III title.
P — Cullen Kafka, De La Salle (Concord), Sr.Oregon-bound ace went 11-1 for the North Coast Section Division I repeat champions.
P — Patrick Wicklander, Valley Christian (San Jose), Jr.The West Catholic Athletic League co-Pitcher of the Year went 8-1 with 91 strikeouts for the NorCal No. 1 team.
C — Diego Black, Christian Brothers, Sr.His defensive prowess helped key the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III champions and a 29-2 record.
C — Bryan Rosario, Arroyo (San Lorenzo), Sr. The West Alameda Conference Player of the Year powered the Dons to their first North Coast Section title.
IF — Darren Baker, Jesuit (Carmichael), Sr.Cal-bound son of Dusty Baker batted .396 with 36 hits and 23 runs for storied program.
IF — Nathan George, Tracy, Sr. Hit .461 with seven home runs and 23 extra base hits for the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I South champions.
IF — Boston Hubbard, Monte Vista (Danville), Sr.Leadoff hitter batted .356 and stole nine bases for the Mustangs, a return visitor to the North Coast Section playoffs.
IF — Nick Marinconz, Valley Christian (San Jose), So.His .414 average led the way for the Central Coast Section Open champions.
IF — Trace Tammaro, De La Salle (Concord), Jr.He hit .333 with six homers and six doubles for the North Coast Section Division I champions.
IF — Charles Middleton, Lincoln, Sr.He hit .604 with seven homers, 19 doubles and 54 RBIs to power the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV champions.
OF — Ryan Cole, De La Salle (Concord), Sr.Headed to Notre Dame, Cole hit .383 for the North Coast Section Division I champions.
OF — John Lagattuta, Davis, Sr.The MVP of the Delta League hit .451 with 19 extra base hits and 38 RBIs.
OF — Connor Mack, Bellarmine College Prep (San Jose), Sr.Cal-bound star was the West Catholic Athletic League MVP, hitting .357.
DH — George Spithorst, Elk Grove, Jr.Spithorst batted .358 with 14 extra base hits and 22 RBIs for the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I champions.
UT — Trenton Denholm, Oak Ridge (El Dorado Hills), Sr.UC Irvine-bound ace went 6-4 with an 0.99 ERA and hit .363 with 23 RBIs.
UT — Brett Hansen, Foothill (Pleasanton), Jr.Stanford commit went 7-1 and batted .321 as the East Bay Athletic League MVP.
UT — Riley Lamb, Elk Grove, Sr.USC-bound star went 3-0 in the playoffs, slugging three homers for the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I champions.
UT — Darren Nelson, Granite Bay, Sr. Cal Poly-bound star hit .423 with 20 RBIs and went 8-0 with a 1.87 ERA.
UT — Hunter Schilperoort, Westmont (Campbell), Sr.Went 9-2 with a 0.79 ERA and hit .449 with 27 RBIs for the Central Coast Section Division I champions.
UT — Tim Tague, Miramonte, Sr.Co-ace went 11-0 with a 0.81 ERA and batted .368 for the 27-1 Matadors.
