Match Summary
The West Johnston volleyball team entered conference play tonight against a 1 - 4 Wilson Fike team and was able to scratch out a hard fought 5 set match. The win certainly did not come easily and a quick 25 - 16 first set win was not a harbinger of what the rest of the match would produce. The girls from Fike came out in the 2nd set firing on all cylinders and held off the Lady Wildcats 22 - 25. These Wilson girls were even more impressive in the 3rd set, jumping out to a quick lead and holding off the West girls 20 - 25. Down 2 sets to 1, the Wildcat girls showed terrific resiliency in the 4th set, scratching and clawing their way to a tight 25 - 22 win. With the match tied up at 2 sets each, the West girls found themselves in a nail-biting 5th set, leading 8 - 7. With solid serving and some aggressive net play, the Wildcats finished off Fike with an 8 - 1 run to close out the match. The team now moves to 2 - 3 overall and, more importantly, 1 - 0 in the conference.
