North Carolina High School Volleyball - West Johnston over Southern Wayne
September 26, 2023: Benson, NC 27504 The crowd at Tuesday's league bout between the West Johnston Wildcats (Benson, NC) and the visiting Southern Wayne Saints (Dudley, NC), saw West Johnston's volleyball squad beat Southern Wayne by a tally of 3-1.
With the win, West Johnston upgrades its record to 10-4 on the year. The Wildcats travel to East Wake (Wendell, NC) to play the Warriors in a Quad County 3A bout on Thursday, September 28. The Warriors go into the bout with a record of 2-14. East Wake lost 3-0 in their recent league bout against C.B. Aycock (Pikeville, NC)
The Saints now own a 8-8 record. They play next when they host Hunt for a Quad County 3A bout on Thursday, September 28. Southern Wayne will play a Warriors squad coming off a 3-1 non-league loss to Ayden - Grifton (Ayden, NC). The Warriors record now stands at 7-8.
Match Summary
The West Johnston volleyball team improved its conference record to 8 - 1 tonight with a 4-set victory over the Saints from Southern Wayne High School by a 3 - 1 set score. West took command early with a first set win by a score of 25 - 16. The second set would not go as well with the Wildcats, as the Lady Saints overcame a 19 - 14 deficit to take the set away from West by a 22 - 25 score. The Lady Wildcats came out in the third set ready to play and took the set easily 25 - 12. The fourth and last set was a bit tighter, but West maintained control throughout the set to win 25 - 18 and close out the match. Next up for the Wildcats is East Wake High School in Wendell, NC on Thursday.
