September 12, 2023: Benson, NC 27504 The crowd at Tuesday's league bout between the West Johnston Wildcats (Benson, NC) and the visiting C.B. Aycock Golden Falcons (Pikeville, NC), saw West Johnston's volleyball squad beat C.B. Aycock by a tally of 3-1.
With the win, West Johnston upgrades its record to 6-3 on the year. The Wildcats host Hunt (Wilson, NC) to play the Warriors in a Quad County 3A bout on Thursday, September 14. The Warriors go into the bout with a record of 4-6. Hunt won 3-2 in their recent league bout against South Johnston (Four Oaks, NC)
The Golden Falcons now own a 8-4 record. They play next when they travel to Smithfield-Selma for a Quad County 3A bout on Thursday, September 14. C.B. Aycock will play a Spartans squad coming off a 3-0 league loss to Southern Wayne (Dudley, NC). The Spartans record now stands at 1-9.
Match Summary
West Johnston won a tense 4 set match tonight against the girls from C.B. Aycock High School. West took the first set in a close game 25 - 23 that featured quite a number of earned points coming off of the Lady Wildcat attack. The Aycock girls came out firing in the 2nd set and finished off the set with a 9 - 4 run to win 20 - 25. The 3rd set started a bit slowly for the Wildcat girls, who found themselves down 4 - 9 at one point. Then, just as quickly, the Wildcats ran off 8 straight points to take control and went on to win that game 25 - 20. The 4th set was a thriller indeed. West appeared to have the set in hand (and thus the match) when the girls stretched their slim 15 - 13 lead to a more commanding 22 - 17 lead. However, the Lady Falcons would not go quietly, putting together a 6 - 0 run to take the lead in the set 22 - 23. Still, the West girls fought gamely and clawed their way back, closing out the set and the match by a 26 - 24 score.
