The Alexander Central Cougars (Taylorsville, NC) basketball edged the visiting Watauga Pioneers (Boone, NC), 68-65 in Tuesday's league bout.

The Cougars now possess a 8-7 record. They play next when they travel to South Caldwell for a 3A/4A Northwestern bout on Friday, January 17. Alexander Central will play a Spartans team coming off a 94-92 league loss to Freedom (Morganton, NC). The Spartans record now stands at 10-5.

With the loss, Watauga falls to 8-5 on the campaign. The Pioneers host Hibriten (Lenoir, NC) to play the Panthers in a 3A/4A Northwestern bout on Friday, January 17. The Panthers go into the bout with a record of 3-12.
