The Hammond Tornadoes basketball team scored 44 points and limited the host Covington Lions to 26 in the Tornadoes league triumph on Thursday.

The Tornadoes now have a 6-16 record. They play next when they travel to Mandeville for a 5A District 6 game on Friday, January 31. Hammond will confront a Skippers team coming off a 60-45 non-league win over Glen Oaks (Baton Rouge, LA). The Skippers record now stands at 19-8.

With the loss, Covington falls to 7-13 on the campaign. The Lions travel to Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy (Kenner, LA) to confront the Swamp Owls in a non-league game on Friday, January 31. The Swamp Owls go into the game with a record of 9-16. Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy lost 43-30 in their recent league game against St. Charles Catholic (LaPlace, LA)
