Virginia High School Volleyball - Gloucester overwhelmed by New Kent
August 26, 2025: Gloucester, VA 23061 In Tuesday's league challenge, the visiting New Kent Trojans volleyball team scored a 3-0 triumph over the Gloucester Dukes.
The Trojans (1-0) will now prepare for their challenge against Poquoson (Poquoson, VA). The Islanders go into the Bay Rivers test with a 1-0 record. In their last test, Poquoson gained a win over York (Yorktown, VA), 3-0, in a league test.
The Dukes now sport a 0-2 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Grafton for a Bay Rivers test on Tuesday, September 2.
Match Summary
The NKHS varsity team started its season with a three-set sweep of the Class 4 Dukes of Gloucester High School, who joined the Bay Rivers District this year. The Lady Trojans dominated the Dukes in the first set, winning 25-5, gave up a few extra points with some subs in during the second set, winning 25-10, and managed a comfortable 25-20 win in the third set with the rest of the 16-player squad on the floor. NK recorded 26 kills to Gloucester's six and 20 aces to Gloucester's five. The outside hitters led the offense for NK with Leah Rounds recording 12 kills, Carly Sachs five, and Hannah Sachs four. Middle Hitter Chloe Lightner recorded two kills on three attempts to lead the team in efficiency with a .667. The setting duties were handled by Desi Stowe, who tallied 12 assists and five aces, and Brie Perry, who added nine assists and four aces. NK travels to Poquoson on Thursday for their second Bay Rivers match.
