NFL Draft: State-by-state look at high schools of first-round picks over last decade

By Zack Poff Apr 26, 2023, 10:00am

Nearly half of first-round selections have come from California, Florida, Georgia and Texas since 2013.

The four big states — California, Florida, Georgia and Texas — make up for nearly half of the first round selections in the NFL Draft over the last decade. The Sunshine State leads the way with 46 first round picks followed by Texas (37), Georgia (33) and California (29).

St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and Northwestern (Miami) are the only schools that have had four players selected in the first round since 2013. Damon Arnette, Joey Bosa, Nick Bosa and Phillip Dorsett represent Aquinas while DeAndre Baker, Artie Burns, Amari Cooper and Teddy Bridgewater played for the Bulls.

American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.), Fort Bend Elkins (Missouri City, Texas) and IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) have all had three first round selections over the last 10 years.

Twenty-one schools have had two players selected in the first round headlined by Allen (Texas)Chandler (Ariz.), Lake Travis (Austin, Texas)St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) and St. Louis (Honolulu).

In total, 42 different states have had at least one first round pick. Alaska, District of Columbia, Maine, Montana, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Vermont and West Virginia have not had a first round selection.

Alabama (16), Louisiana (15), North Carolina (12), Pennsylvania (12), Ohio (11) and New Jersey (10) were the only other states that have had at least 10 first round selections.
