With kickoff approaching, here's our preseason take on our annual and weekly list of the top high school football programs in the region. Also listed below are the MaxPreps preseason computer rankings for every Great Lakes state.
Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin start regular season play the week of August 17 (first Friday is Aug. 21). Pennsylvania, Michigan and New York kick off the following week. Minnesota starts Sept. 3.

Offensively, the roster, which returns players that accounted for 80 of 89 TDs scored last season, is one of the country’s best. Senior quarterback Owen Scalf is the nation’s No. 2 returner in passing yards (4,960). He completed 72% of his passes last season and tossed 41 TDs. Five of his top six targets return, including seniors Tysin Weaver (91 receptions, 1,375 yards and 20 TDs), Cooper Kathman (90 receptions, 1,158 yards and eight TDs), Jordan Davis (76 receptions, 743 yards and four TDs) and Tegan Jallick (78 receptions, 919 yard and six TDs). Davis doubles as an elite back that ran for 674 yards and 21 TDs on 145 carries. Scalf ran for 678 yards and eight TDs on 164 carries. Defensively the Raptors need to replace four of their top six tacklers, but they return a formidable nucleus with senior linebacker Antwoine Higgins (Kentucky) and senior cornerback Ace Alston (Notre Dame). Alston (53 tackles) is a top 100 prospect nationally.
