October 24, 2024: Williamsburg, VA 23188 The New Kent Trojans (New Kent, VA) volleyball held off the host Bruton Panthers (Williamsburg, VA), 3-2 in Thursday's league bout.
The Trojans now possess a 20-2 record.
With the loss, Bruton drops to 18-5 on the campaign. The Panthers travel to Jamestown (Williamsburg, VA) to clash with the Eagles in a Bay Rivers bout on Monday, October 28. The Eagles come into the bout with a record of 12-9. Jamestown won 3-0 in their recent league bout against Warhill (Williamsburg, VA)
Match Summary
The Lady Trojans finished their regular season with a 5-set win over Bruton, giving the NK Varsity the program's first 20-win regular season. NK started the match with solid serving, winning the first set 25-20 and hitting .280. The Panthers rallied late in set two to win 26-24 after NK's hitting fell to .026. Bruton continued to dominate in set 3 and extended their lead 2-1 in sets, winning 25-20. While set 4 saw the lowest NK serving of the night with two Ks to 5 errors, the hitting improved to .229 on 12 Ks and only 4 errors. Tied at 2 sets apiece, the first 8 points of the 5th set saw three ties before NK took the final lead at 5-4 on a Leah Rounds serve. NK slowly pulled away on 4 service aces and 2Ks by Rounds and Kendall White, and a K by Carly Sachs.
