Virginia High School Volleyball - Smithfield overwhelmed by New Kent
September 19, 2024: Smithfield, VA 23430 The New Kent Trojans topped the host Smithfield Packers volleyball squad by a final score of 3-0 in Thursday's league game.
Next up, the Trojans face the Bruton Panthers (Williamsburg, VA) in a Bay Rivers game, on Tuesday, September 24. New Kent will attempt to advance on its 11-1 season record. The Panthers go into the game with a 10-2 record after their 3-1 league loss to Poquoson (Poquoson, VA).
The Packers (3-8) will now prepare for their game against Tabb (Yorktown, VA). The Tigers go into the Bay Rivers game with a 5-3 record. In their last game, Tabb went down by Grafton (Yorktown, VA), 3-0, in a league game.

All available NK players saw action during the match, which also saw the first entry of the season for junior DS/Op Carina Dolci, who had been sidelined with a shoulder injury. Highlights for New Kent included: 7 Ks and a .438 hitting efficiency for middle blocker Leah Rounds, who also served up 9 aces and five digs. Senior outside hitter Fallon Greenawalt added 6 Ks while junior opposite Ava Nieto added five Ks. Setters Mackenzie Loveland and Desi Stowe recorded 18 and 4 assists respectively, with Stowe adding a K and Loveland contributing 5 digs and an ace. Senior Libero Abby McLaughlin led the defense with 18 digs and 17 service receptions with Greenawalt and senior DS Chloe Phillips adding 7 digs each. Phillips also contributed 6 service aces during 14 attempts.
