August 27, 2024: Williamsburg, VA 23188 The New Kent Trojans volleyball team scored 3 points and restricted the host Lafayette Rams to 0 in the Trojans league triumph on Tuesday.
The Trojans now possess a 1-0 record. They play next when they host Grafton for a Bay Rivers outing on Thursday, August 29. New Kent will play a Clippers team coming off a 3-1 league win over Poquoson (Poquoson, VA). The Clippers record now stands at 1-0.
With the loss, Lafayette drops to 0-1 on the campaign. The Rams travel to Bruton (Williamsburg, VA) to play the Panthers in a Bay Rivers outing on Thursday, August 29. The Lady Trojans won in straight sets over the Rams of Lafayette. The Rams, who have not won a match since November 2021, were improved over the past two seasons, tallying 15 points in the first set and 13 in the second. A highlight for the Lady Trojans was Mackenzie Loveland recording her 1,000th career assist on a set to freshman OH Carly Sachs in the game's second rally. The NK bench erupted with a huge celebration that prompted assistant coach Cyndi Burnett to go to the Lafayette coaching staff and explain what had just occurred. Other highlights include the team hitting a .555 in the second set and .233 overall, MB Leah Rounds hitting .462 for the match with a team-leading 9 kills, OH Fallon Greenawalt's 6 kills, and opposite Ava Nieto's 4 kills. Defensively, MBs Kendall White and Chloe Lightner recorded two blocks each, while Libero Abby McLaughlin and setter Loveland led the team with 8 digs each. New Kent plays Grafton at home on Thursday.
