Game Summary
SHUTOUT AND SHUTDOWN
Randall’s Island, NY – In a classic early season clash between two teams with championship dreams, the La Salle Cardinals and the Red Storm of St. John’s Prep traded zeros for seven and two-third innings, until one team blinked, unfortunately for LSA it was them as two errors in the bottom of the seventh sent them home on the wrong side of 1-0 decision, in the CHSAA Varsity Baseball ‘A’ division 2022 season opener on Randall’s Island.
La Salle’s, Izzac Garcia (L, 0-1) and St. John’s, Sabin Gayle (ND) both threw no-hitters, Gayle got help from teammate, Justin Hernandez (W, 1-0), and were equally masterful on the mound as both defenses played a stellar game. Each team had scoring opportunities but neither side could cross the plate as they combined for 11 runners left on base. In the last half of the seventy, the Cardinal defense collapsed one on a bunt as and an errant throw from La Salle’s shortstop, allowed the winning run to score.
