Game Summary
The opening round of the 2022 CHSAA Varsity Baseball ‘A’ Division Intersectional Playoffs was delayed by two days because of the rain and two hours because both teams had to literally put the field together, but in the end the La Salle Cardinals (#4 seed) came out with a tidy 4-0 win over Cathedral Prep (#5) at Cardinal Spellman High School to move into the double elimination bracket.
La Salle’s, Izzac Garcia, was exceptional on the mound tossing a complete game 3-hit masterpiece. His stat line of only 75 pitches in 7-innings with 7 strikeouts, 4 walks was punctuated with a 1-2-3 seventh inning in only 5 pitches. Garcia was only in trouble once, in the fifth inning, as the Crusaders loaded the bases, but he escaped after striking out Prep’s #2 batter looking at an inside fastball.
The Cardinal offense was once again driven by leadoff hitter Carlos Lorenzo, who was perfect on the day, 3-hits, and a walk with 2 runs and 2 SBs
