Game Summary
With playoff seedings on the line, the La Salle Cardinals finally outlasted the Cathedral Prep Crusaders, 10-7 in nine innings in a rollicking back and forth affair at Juniper Valley Park. The win improves the Cardinals record to 8-4 but, more importantly, gives them the tie break over the Crusaders in the CHSAA ‘A’ Division standings.
The game itself featured three lead changes and included two seventh inning rallies that sent the game into extra innings.
The Cardinals got to work in the seventh lead by Eric Marmolejos, who dropped a perfect bunt to get things started and was capped by Xavier Guzman’s opposite field double down the right field line to give La Salle a 1-run lead going into the bottom of the seventh. Playing a very scrappy game, the Crusaders did just that and plated a run to tie the game off an errant throw from a ground ball that would have ended the game, Damien Maldondo's 2-run double in the top of the 9th sealed the win for La Salle.
