Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding
performers in high school basketball. America's source for high school
sports continues the tradition to close out the 2022-23 season by naming
the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and
individual excellence, in addition to local and state accolades.
Each
state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in
the MaxPreps All-America Team, which is scheduled to be released April 11. Read on for a look at the postseason honors schedule and POYs in
all 50 states.

Staying in-state to play for the Crimson Tide, Austin averaged 20.2 points and 7.2 rebounds while dropping 35 points for her season high. Spring Garden went 33-1 and won its second straight Class 1A state title, finishing the season on an 18-game win streak.

She's helped the Grizzlies to a 51-5 mark over the past two seasons and capped her junior year with a second straight Class 3A championship. Lentfer averaged 20.1 points per night along with 8.8 rebounds as Grace Christian finished this season 26-3.

Arizona — Shay Ijiwoye, Desert Vista (Phoenix)5-6 | Guard | Class of 2024
The Stanford commit helped the 24-6 Thunder to their second straight Open Division game appearance with a title in 2023. Ijiwoye averaged 14.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 3.6 steals per game. She shot
50 percent from the field with a high of 30 points in early December
against Mountain Pointe (Phoenix). Desert Vista is 52-10 over the past two seasons.

Led the Bulldogs to a 27-4 record and third straight Class 5A state championship averaging 19.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.6 steals and 2.3 assists per game. She is the school's all-time leading scorer with 1,935 points. The Bulldogs
went 86-10 over the past three seasons with three state titles.

The USC commit led the Eagles to a 32-2 record and second straight Open Division title. For the season, Smith averaged 20.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists
and 2.1 steals per game. A MaxPreps National Player of the Year
finalist, she shot 59 percent from the field with six games of 29
points.

The future UCLA Bruin led the Wolves to the Class 6A tournament, averaging 22.5 points, 15.6 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 2.2 steals per
game. She shot 64 percent from the field with a high of 35 points in a
December win over Windsor.

A 2,000-point career scorer, she averaged 25.7 points, 13.1 rebounds, 4.2 steals and 2.4 assists per game as the Warriors went 17-8 and reached the Class L quarterfinals.

Already getting offers from the likes of Ohio State, South Carolina and Texas, Banks averaged 21.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.1 steals and 2.6 per game. She helped the Raiders to an 18-6 mark and state title. She scored 29 points in the DIAA title game and hit a free throw with
1.9 seconds left to give Ursuline Academy a 49-48 win over Caravel
(Bear).

A Maryland commit, she led the Cadets to a 26-5 record, Washington Catholic Athletic Conference title and DCSAA Class AA championship. Walker averaged 15.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. She
has helped St. John's go 71-17 over the past three seasons with three
straight WCAC titles.

Averaged 20.4 points, 8.5 assists, 6.6 rebounds and 3.1 steals per game. The Ohio State commit shined against ranked opponents, scoring 29 in a loss to Long
Island Lutheran (Brookville, N.Y.) and 27 against Bishop McNamara
(Forestville, Md.). Cambridge will lead the No. 9 Eagles into next month's Chipotle Nationals looking for a title three-peat.

The Rams went 32-0 with a Class AAAAAAA title thanks in part to Carnegie's 21.0 points, 9.2 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 3.9 steals per game. The Georgia Tech commit surpassed 2,000 career points along with more than 900 rebounds and 600 assists.

Led the state in scoring at 27.3 points per game while shooting 62 percent from the field. She led the Lunas to a 16-7 record as they reached the Division I state semifinals. In a 69-66 win over Waiakea (Hilo) in the state quarterfinals, Donez
broke the single-game tournament scoring record with 41 points.

A repeat pick from the Gem State, she averaged 17.8 points as the Vikings went 20-5 and won the Class 5A state title. In three postseason contests, Colvin averaged 27 points per game, including a 25-point effort with 15 in the fourth in the 57-49 win over rival Lake City (Coeur d'Alene) in the state final.

5-8 | Point guard | Class of 2024
The Colorado State commit led the Railsplitters to a Class 3A state championship, the school's first. Lincoln tied a state mark with 38 victories as Froebe averaged 28.7 points, 6.6 rebounds, 5.0 steals and 4.7 assists per game while shooting 52 percent from the field. In Lincoln's 60-44 win over Glenwood (Chatham) in the Class 3A state
championship game, she scored 36 points – a title-game record.

6-1 | Guard | Class of 2025
The 30-1 Bears won their first state title as she averaged a team-high 18.0 points for the No. 17 team in the MaxPreps Top 25. After putting up 20 points or more 12 times this winter, she will enter her senior year with 1,276 career points.

The Dragons are 96-4 in her four years with unbeaten seasons in 2022 and 2024. This season, the Iowa State commit averaged 15.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per game as Johnston went 29-0 with a Class 5A title.

On pace to become the school's all-time leading scorer, she averaged 19.8 points and 7.4 rebounds per game while shooting 63 percent from the field. Davis helped the Mustangs to a 20-5 record and third-place finish in Class 6A.

Already a three-time Player of the Year choice, Johnson led the Valkyries to their fourth straight state title, becoming the first team to four-peat. She averaged 18.9 points, 7.3

A four-time state champion who will stay home and play for LSU next season, Richard finished her LCA career with 2,838 points. She averaged 26.3 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 3.1 steals per game as the Knights went 33-3 and won their fourth straight Division II Select title.

A 1,000-point career scorer and two-time state champion, Fitzpatrick recorded four quadruple-doubles this winter as the Stags went 18-1 with a Class AA state championship. Staying home to play for the Maine Black Bears, Fitzpatrick averaged 23.0 points, 11.3 rebounds, 4.9 steals and 4.7 assists per game.

The future South Carolina Gamecock averaged 17.9 points, 5.0 assists, 4.7 steals and 3.5 rebounds per game. She
posted a season-high 26 points in games against Sacred Heart
(Louisville, Ky.) in January and Good Counsel (Olney) in February as the Mustangs went 28-5 and won a private school state title. With McDaniel in the lead, Bishop McNamara beat teams from eight states and the District of Columbia this season.

A 1,000-point scorer, she averaged 19.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game and knocked down 71 3-point shots. She helped the Mountaineers to a 24-1 record and the Division I state championship game. Headed to the United State Naval Academy, Gibbons led Wachusett Regional to a 44-5 mark over the past two seasons.

outings.

The Red Knights have won seven straight Class 6 state titles as the Indiana commit has three championship rings already. Caffey hasn't lost in her high school career as IWA owns the nation's longest win streak at 131 games. She averaged 14.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.8 steals and 2.3 assists per game with a high of 22 points twice.

6-2 | Forward | Class of 2024
Headed to Maryland next season, she averaged 25.2 points, 11.4 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 3.2 steals per game as the Falcons went 23-0 with a Class AA state title. She posted 26 points and 14 rebounds in a 54-36 win over Hellgate (Missoula) in the state title game as Skyview is 74-5 over the past three seasons.

Nebraska — Britt Prince, Elkhorn North (Elkhorn)
5-11 | Point guard | Class of 2024
A four-time state champion playing for her mother Ann Prince, the future Nebraska Cornhusker scored 17 points and grabbed 12 boards in a 49-47 win over Skutt Catholic (Omaha) in the Class B final. Prince averaged 27.0 points, 10.3 rebounds and 6.3
assists per game as the Wolves went 25-1. She finished second all-time in Class B with 2,491
points.

The future is bright for the Gaels behind Spaight who helped her squad go 24-4 and snap Centennial's streak of eight consecutive Silver State titles. In the state championship, Spaight helped Bishop Gorman overcome a
nine-point deficit in the first half by scoring 23 points – including 15
in the fourth quarter. For the season, she averaged 17.5 points and 7.1 rebounds.

A MaxPreps Player of the Year in volleyball as well, the Purdue commit led the basketball team to a 24-0 record and Division I state championship. McCarthy averaged 14.9 points, 9.2 rebounds, 4.5 steals and 2.0 assists per game as Bedford went 70-9 in her four years in the program with two championship game appearances.

Staying in state after signing to play at the University of North Dakota, she led the Roughriders to a 24-3 record and third-place finish in the Class A tournament. Schiller averaged 28.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 5.0 steals per game. She
poured in a season-high 45 points in a 70-63 semifinal loss to Davies
(Fargo).

The reigning MaxPreps National Female Athlete of the Year helped the 28-2 Bulldogs to their second straight Class AAA state title. She averaged 31.3 points, 13.3 rebounds, 4.5 steals and 4.0 assists per game. The South Carolina commit
outscored Wren (Piedmont) by herself in the final, dropping 27 points
and grabbing 20 rebounds in a 44-22 win.

Also a soccer and track and field standout for the Falcons, Brueck helped her basketball team to a 21-3 record and appearance in the Division 2 state championship game. She averaged 17.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, 5.6 steals and 3.1 assists per game. She surpassed the 1,000-point mark.
