Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school basketball. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2022-23 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence, in addition to local and state accolades.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which is scheduled to be released April 10. Read on for a look at the postseason honors schedule and the POYs in all 50 states.

Regarded as a top five sophomore prospect nationally, Holt averaged 20.2 points, 9.5 rebounds 3.0 steals and 2.4 assists per contest to guide the Bucks to their second straight Class 6A state championship.

Averaged 13.0 points, 3.6 assists and 3.4 rebounds per contest to guide the Thunderbirds to their second consecutive Class 4A state championship. Sabally contributed a team-high 23 points and hauled in nine rebounds in a 68-34 triumph against Thunder Mountain (Juneau) in the state title game.

Five-star junior led the Pumas to their third consecutive state championship with averages of 20.5 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.2 blocked shots per game on the season. He recorded 21 points, 13 rebounds and four assists to help Perry overcome a 17-point deficit in the Open Division state title game.

Missouri signee averaged 18.4 points and 7.9 rebounds per outing to lead the Tigers to the Class 6A state title. Boateng earned state tournament MVP honors after putting up 25 points and 11 rebounds in the state semifinals before posting 14 points and 10 rebounds in the title game.

USC signee averaged 18.6 points, 6.1 rebounds and 5.9 assists per contest to lead the Wolverines to their second consecutive Open Division state championship. Perry had numerous big moments during his team's postseason run, including a 42-point performance in the state quarterfinals.

Guided the Eagles to their first state championship since 2007, averaging 22.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.2 steals per game on the season. Scherer led all scorers with 29 points on 9 of 13 from the field in the Class 6A state semifinals and followed that up with a 28-point performance in the title game.

Promising sophomore prospect averaged 21.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 2.0 steals and 2.0 blocks per contest to guide the Knights to a unbeaten run to the Division I state title. Toure broke Notre Dame's single-game scoring record when he went off for 49 points in a 98-71 win over Wilbur Cross (New Haven) in January.

Averaged 19.6 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game to navigate the Senators to their first state title. He tallied 31 points, nine rebounds and two steals in a 56-53 victory over Salesianum (Wilmington) in the title game and finished his career with over 1,000 points.

Regarded as a top two junior prospect nationally, Boozer averaged 22.2 points, 11.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 2.1 blocks and 1.6 steals per contest to guide the Explorers to their third straight Class 7A state championship. He produced 24 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and three blocks in a
72-67 win over Oak Ridge (Orlando) in the state title game.

Five-star Rutgers signee averaged 32.5 points, 15.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.4 blocked shots per contest against a schedule that included nine nationally-ranked opponents. Bailey piled up 40 or more points and 19 or more rebounds in the same game three times this season.

Earned state Player of the Year honors for the second straight season after guiding the Crusaders to their third consecutive Division I state championship. Sepulona averaged 14.8 points per game this season and put up 25 points, 11 rebounds and three steals in the state semifinals.

USC signee led the Storm to their second state title in the past three seasons, averaging 16.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists per contest. The marksman was an efficient scorer, shooting 49.1 percent from the field, 40.5 percent from three-point range and 85.7 percent from the free throw line.

Illinois signee averaged 17.2 points, 14.1 rebounds, 3.5 assists. 3.4 blocks and 2.6 steals per contest to help the Wildcats reach the Class 3A state quarterfinals. The dominant interior force posted double-doubles in 29 of 34 games and had a game with 30 points, 17 rebounds and six blocks mid-way through the season.

Five-star Kansas signee averaged 19.0 points, 12.9 rebounds, 4.4 blocked shots and 3.2 assists per contest while shooting 81 points percent from the field - missing just 54 shots on 290 field goal attempts. Bidunga posted 22 double-doubles and three triple-doubles to lead the Wildkats to the Class 4A regional finals.

A dominant season saw Robinson average 24 points, 15 rebounds, five assists and three steals per contest. In a 67-64 overtime loss to Kapaun Mt. Carmel (Wichita) in the state semifinals, he posted 20 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, four steals and two blocks.

Top 75 Kentucky signee averaged 29.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 3.9 steals per outing to guide the Lyons to their first state championship in school history. Perry is Kentucky's all-time leading scorer as he finished his career with 5,481 points – the seventh-highest total in national history.

Santa Clara signee averaged 20.2 points, 11.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 2.3 blocks per game while shooting 69.5 percent from the field to guide the Green Wave to their second consecutive state championship. In the Division 1 Non-Select title game, he piled up 19 points, 20 rebounds, eight blocks and four assists.

Averaged 17.8 points, 6.8 assists, 6.3 rebounds and 3.4 steals per game to guide the Red Riots to their second straight Class B state title. Walston finished with 16 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals in a wire-to-wire victory over Oceanside (Rockland) in the championship game.

McAndrew scored a career-high 40 points in a 105-76 victory over Hopkins (Minnetonka) the Section 6 title game to send Wayzata to the state tournament.

Three-star Mississippi State signee averaged 23.8 points, 9.1 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 3.5 blocked shots per contest to guide the Rangers to the Class 4A state championship. Paymon tallied 17 points and 12 rebounds in a lopsided victory over McComb in the title game.

Five-star Texas signee averaged 15.5 points, 3.6 assists and 3.3 rebounds per contest while shooting nearly 40 percent from three-point range and 90.5 percent from the free throw line. Johnson helped guide the Lions to a record of 25-6 and the No. 6 seed in Chipotle Nationals.

South Dakota State signee averaged 17.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.0 steals per contest to guide the Thunderbirds to their second consecutive Class A state title. In four seasons with the program, Jackson led Bellevue West to a record of 106-8 and piled up 1,297 points.

Led the Cougars to an appearance in the Class 5A state title game, averaging 22.8 points, 13.6 rebounds, 2.7 blocks and 2.2 assists per outing. Bartlett posted a double-double in all but one game this season and produced 15 points and 13 rebounds in a 63-60 loss to Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) in the title game.

Five-star Rutgers signee averaged 22.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.4 steals per game to guide the Ironmen to the Non-Public A state championship and the No. 9 spot in the MaxPreps Top 25. He tallied 38 points and eight rebounds in a win over St. Peter's Prep (Jersey City) in the North Jersey Non-Public A title game.

Led the Hawks to their third consecutive Class 5A state championship with averages of 22.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists per contest while shooting 62.4 percent from the field and 47.0 percent from three-point range. Aguino helped Volcano Vista to a record of 88-2 during his three years in the program.

Top 25 Kentucky signee averaged 19.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 2.4 steals per game to guide the Crusaders to the CHSAA Class AA city title and inaugural PSAL vs. CHSAA AA championship. Fland scored a career-high 43 points to go along with 11 rebounds in a triumph over Christ the King (Middle Village) in postseason play.

In a 79-63 victory over nationally-ranked Myers Park (Charlotte) in the state quarterfinals, Evans scored a season-high 48 points – accounting for 21 consecutive points in the third quarter.

Guided the Mustangs to the Class AA state title, averaging 20.3 points, 13.3 rebounds and 2.2 blocked shots per contest. He tallied 28 points, 17 rebounds and two blocks in a 78-62 victory over Fargo North (Fargo) in the state title game en route to tournament most valuable player honors.

In a 59-48 win over Franklin Regional (Murrysville) in the title game, Nowell tallied 10 of his game-high 20 points in the fourth quarter.

In his four-year career at Wisconsin Lutheran, Knueppel piled up 1,978 points, 808 rebounds and 398 assists while guiding the team to a record of 99-11.

Two-time Class 4A All-State selection averaged 15.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists per contest in leading the Indians to the Class 4A state title. In a three-point victory over Laramie in the state title game, Sawyer scored 10 of his team-high 19 points in the fourth quarter and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
